'Don't Stop Believing'

What a week! So first off... the election... I'm very glad to know that Prop 8 passed. A similar amendment passed here in FL. Our neighbors kept us updated on the election all night, so it was interesting to see how everything panned out. It was weird to be on the east coast for it. Normally when I'm at home, once CA's votes are in, the east has already been done for a few hours. This time I had to wait patiently. Anyway...
So it seems that everyone we start teaching becomes suddenly ill. Ugh. Greg Raffa was supposed to be baptized this past Saturday, but instead he ended up in the ICU Tuesday until Saturday. So, hopefully he'll be able to be baptized this week.
Tuesday I made the prideful comment to Elder Wright that I'd never gotten a flat tire on my bike. (which reminds me of Mom's story of how she'd never broken a bone). Well... I was humbled mere hours later with a flat tire. I tried to patch it, but it wouldn't, so I stuck in an extra tube. I checked the inside for prickly things to see what caused it, but never found anything. However... I never checked the outside of the tire. So on Wednesday we were about a mile & 1/2 from home and I hear a hissing sound. I followed the sound, which led me to a large shard of glass sticking out of my tire! Ummm... that would be the problem. So I took it out, checked the rest of the outside, and then put in a new tube that has some green slimy stuff that supposedly protects the tube from flats. All clear, right? WRONG!!! Friday Elder Brown got a flat tire. AACCKK!!! So now it's been a few days, and hopefully we're safe now.
Thursday we held a "hymn sing" for our ward. A ward missionary had the idea that we could get together every couple of weeks, invite some investigators, and sing hymns. It brings the Spirit, and then we could share a quick thought and then setup return appointments. A grand idea... we even invited quite a few people... but all of 3 people came, all of which were members. So, I suppose the trial & error will continue.
Friday we had quite the horrifying experience. (Actually, it was hilarious!) So we got home and I was on the phone with our WML when we heard some strange music coming from the backyard. Now, the way our apartments are setup our backyard is up against someone else's yard. So Brown goes out to investigate the source of this nonsense, and comes back in laughing hysterically. I go out, and recognize the music as Journey being sung horribly off-key. We looked through the slits of the fence and saw this girl (probably in her 20's) dancing with a hula-hoop (sp?!) whilst her hippy boyfriend sang along. It was probably the funniest thing that I've ever seen in my life!
Sunday I got to teach a teenage girl who's deaf... so my ASL skills were tested. I'm not sure she got too much out of it. I was terribly nervous and kept on repeating myself. So I'll bet you can guess what I'll be practicing in my studies for the next little while.
And finally... Saturday was transfer calls. I will be staying here in OP (which means I'll probably stay here for the remainder of my mission). However, Elder Brown is being transferred, making him 6-week companion #9!!! I found out this morning that I'll be training again, for the fourth time. Maybe I'll actually get to keep him for longer than 6-weeks! Elder Wright (one of our spanish roommates) is going home to Utah, and Elder Woolsey is staying.
So, that was my uber-exciting week. Love ya! -Elder Borgia
